I do feel for people of working age today, that want to work, I'm sure I must have said many times how fortunate I was...being born in the age where work was plentiful, and that I'm now retired.

I envy the older generation who went to work and actually produced things - coal, steel etc. etc.

My granddad did double shifts down the pit for years; always made me respect how hard his generation worked to earn their retirement.

A mate of mine who I worked with retired this week and said something that made me think a lot about retirement. He said: 'It's sort of like the beginning of the end'. I see it as a an achievement and recognition for all you years of hard graft.

Such a shame to see peoples pensions getting messed about with. It puts you off paying into these government pension schemes.
