Maybe, but the club that holds your contract, and pays your wages is in Southampton, be very wise to remember that. [/quote]

The player holds all the cards, in reality. A player, who wants away, is of no use to the club who currently pays his wages. In fact, keeping him there, for any length of time, is only likely to drive the price downwards.

    Like with Suarez !?

Saints don't want to do business at these numbers. If they want him they need to match Saints' valuation or do one !

Agree with all that, but with the club only paying AŁ8.5m for him, theres no great loss financially even if they price him at AŁ25m.
The issue i've got is Lovren needs to show some respect to the club, and not trying to make a get out for himself.

Playing devils advocate, why does he need to show respect and what is the 'club'?

    It's just a job, surely?

I think a football club has fans and players to whom the Club means different things.
To the fans the club is a passion they follow blindly and and wear coloured spectacles which sees little wrong in anything they do.
To most players the club is an employer to whom they sell their skills for the highest price they can get. They employ agents to look after their best interests and agents are clearly on performance related pay.
Like most of us they don't feel huge loyalty toward their employer and are always on the lookout to improve their earnings. I don't think the amount of said earnings makes a lot of difference as market value sets the price at all levels. I have changed jobs a couple of times in my career for better money, have you?
To the question 'do people pay thousands to watch you work' the answer is No, but they did pay thousands to purchase the results of my work, is there a big difference?
Players are employees passing through, support them, cheer them whilst they wear the

A: surely, that was an SFC decision to pay more than Lille. They obviously thought he was worth it and they have been proved right because his value has, at least, doubled. That would indicate that he has performed well enough to justify that cash, up till now.
Part of the reason that Lovren signed for you was that he was assured that the club had ambitions that matched his own. He now feels that those ambitions no longer exist and, in effect, the original contract has been broken. Surely, he has the right to extricate himself from an agreement that has changed unfavourably towards him?
It seems that SFC have not treated Lovren with respect and he clearly feels aggrieved that negotiations with a club he would like to play for have not been relayed to him.

B: what does the 'club' consist of though?

C: his job is to play football for SFC. The club are the ones who decide whether that is in front of paying customers, or not.

As it happens, yes I have been paid to be watched, frequentl

Compare and contrast the attitudes of Lambert and Schneiderlin with Lallana and Lovren.

Respect or contempt are the reactions of others as to how one conducts oneself. It's the same in any walk of life.
