Luis Enrique: Gerard Deulofeu Was Wasted At Everton

Barcelona Boss Blasts Everton Over 'Wasted' Deulofeu.

The 20-year-old attacker has completed a loan move to Sevilla where Barcelona boss Luis Enrique hopes one of the Catalans’ finest prospects can flourish this term in La Liga.

However, the Barcelona manager didn’t stop there, instead taking the opportunity to criticize Everton over their use of the youngster last season in the Premier League.

“Gerard Deulofeu was wasted last year. They tried to kill his flair and vision. That won't happen at Seville,” Enrique told Marca.

Gerard Deulofeu scored three goals and made three assists in the Premier League last season in 23 appearances as well as one goal in four appearances in domestic cup competitions.

However, of his 29 appearances in total for the Blues, Roberto Martinez started the youngster just nine times. However, it's hard to imagine another top five (or six or seven) clubs in the English top tier offering him that.

Everton played Deulofeu in exactly 60.5 per cent

Yes he was a good wing player with plenty of energy for us.

Yes he pissed fans off by losing the ball and loose/casual distribution "skills".

Yes he scored cracking goals and made himself a better player and was probably an element for our highest points total in the PL.

Yes he should have stayed another season and not had the pressure he has now to perform much much better than he did for Everton on loan.

Will he become world class and talked about with the same reverence as his Barca-Peers in 5 years time?

    Doubtful.

Good player, nice enough lad. Truth is he's very replaceable.

If I remember correctly one of the first things he did was to complain about being played in the wrong position. Anyway didn't we bring in Atsu to take his place?

After going back to Barca I felt Deulofeu was quite complimentary about his stay at Everton. So I have no real problem with him, it appears to be his manager that's being an ass.

Oddly enough there are still rumours going about that Martinez will swoop in and bring the lad back here on loan
