My sentiments entirely mate I think we played Tranmere first home after Billy's death an remember all the Scarves ,Flowers and Tributes outside the ground and the way he was celebrated before the KO, The way he was revered throughout the World made me even more proud to be A wolves Fan.
The word Legend was created for men like William Ambrose Wright.

First IN THE WORLD to get 100 caps for his country.

Could you ever imagine a player 5ft 8 playing in his position these days?

Today's English "stars" would have been just about worthy to clean Billy's boots.

A decent read on Billy Wright in link below from WolvesHeroes.com website. One part in particular, Jack Hayward's part in getting Billy Wright on the Wolves board. - view external link

Watched him right through his time at Wolves and although only 5'8" don't think I ever saw him elbow anyone when going up for a ball, never resorted to tugging opposition shirts, got up after a heavy challenge not rolling round as if half dead, didn't stop for a bottle of water, maybe suck the sponge and
never saw him spit every couple of minutes. Then in the early days after the match he would catch the bus back to Mrs Tolleys!!
So glad I was able to see such a real professional footballer.

I've got a couple of old Wolves books in the loft. Stan Cullis All for the Wolves and a similar type one for Billy Wright, think it's green with a PIC of him on front but not sure, can't remember.

Built solid and powerful, a man who could carry a club and a country on his shoulders! Love that statue outside the Mol, whenever I see it it makes me feel that I have come home (although it is my wife who is from Wolverhampton).
