Is that the Midland list? Because I'm sure Newcastle head the national table.

Well, they say stats don't lie - but they can be presented to create false sensationalism!

Interesting to see that the original Express & Star article cannot now be accessed! So then, 44 arrests in the season - that is an average of less than one per match. That sounds like very good news and something to crow about rather than be subjected to the negative spin the E & S tried to put on it. I wonder if the article was withdrawn because of complaints.

This also reflects well on the police and match stewards. I think that the E & S article is a disgraceful calumny and I am not surprised if it has been withdrawn.

I recall part of a conversation with a national football journalist at a Rothmans Football Yearbook press release function at Wembley Stadium in the early 1980s. I asked him how he could create sensational headlines after a football weekend with no particular highlights. His reply was, "Easy, fifty arrests at Old Trafford!" He then went on to add that in crowds of that

I assume most arrests happened on the road. As wolves were the most followed club last season (in the midlands) there would be higher arrests by ratio.

Why do the media call them fans? Scum is probably a better word.
