Also SRL stayed on the bench. Seems like a good GBP 4+ million made.

But isn't the point that they were playing Champions League football last night and Schneiderlin was sat on his backside watching them on the telly. He'll be doing the same when they get to play at the Bernebeu too.

They may not have been very good (it was Lallana's 2nd game back from injury) but they were playing.

As I made my way back from Fratton last night the radio was full of Arsenal needing a defensive midfielder. What are the bets Wenger comes a calling in Jan?

I'd guess that depends how Wanyama does between now and then. They can keep their hands off Cork though. But yes, for the right price maybe big Vic could be tempted.

With our academy and scouting network, we have an excellent sustainable model, especially as the financial fair play regulations begin to bite. This summer we raked in more money than any other club in Europe and yet still managed to strengthen the squad to the extent that we currently stand 4th in the Premier League and have a better chance than ever of winning one of the cups and qualifying for Europe.
Every club has to sell top players sometimes, even Real Madrid and Man United. But, Southampton seems to do much better than most out of the transfer market.

These are great times at Southampton.

Liarllana is performing how he always did, when not fully match fit. He was like that throughout our first season back in the Prem, when he kept getting niggling injuries.
That is why I hope he gets another "knock" just as he is starting to get back to form, so he has to keep going through the same thing, constantly having to win the fans over, but not quite making it.

Lovren suddenly looks very susceptible to a ball down the channel, as last night and also v Man City when Aguero also did him in similar style.
He also used to have blood rushes to the head, when with us, when he would do something silly, as last night when he straight armed the Lud player to the ground for a nailed on penalty, IMO.

Interesting comments from a supposed ITK on SaintsWeb - apparently, the club considered Lallana would continue to be injury prone and Lovren had a poor / disruptive attitude in the dressing room.

In both cases, the club clearly decided it was in its best interests to get rid sooner rather than later.

With ropey starts from both players, the Kop faithful and media on their backs (already) and a eye watering £45m dumped into our coffers, it seems Les and crew could have pulled off something of a masterstroke.

Here's hoping the benchwarmers enjoy watching Lovren make a mess of things in defence again

Edit - he's got an owner after 60 seconds - beautiful

    2-0 - They should've stayed at a big club
