The chaps who died, I'm not sure we're supposed to know them all by.
Here's a couple Cow.
L/Cpl 23286 Alexander Holliday and Pt. 30163 Jonathan Holliday, both of 11th Btn Border Regiment. Brothers. Both fought in the France and Flanders theatre of war, both died on 18th November 1916. One has a grave in a war cemetery in Flanders, the other has no grave. The family received a telegram notifying them of their losses on Christmas Day the same year. For them, Christmas was never the same again.

I've no idea Cow, I wasn't around at the time.
Conscription came in around March 1916 and most of those soldiers were used for the big pushes in 1917. I'd hazard a guess and it's only a guess mind, that they were volunteers.

Well that particular btn was a volunteer btn but they may have been replacements.
