I've been called some things before but that was way below the belt

But he didn't.
Disappointing.[/quote]
His quote was
"I have said that Derby, is my focus. We have a really good chance in the second half of the season, and we have a job to do, to challenge and perhaps get into that Premier League.
"It's pure speculation until it happens. I'm enjoying working with the club and the board. We've all worked together very well over the last 15 months. I want to finish the job here."
Pretty much what you said he should have said...
Some would interprete the "It's pure speculation until it happens." As when the offer comes I'm off. Some would take it for what it is, which is Steve stating the obvious and laughing it off

Directors, Managers, Footballers, there is no loyalty in any of them. All about money and nowt else. So lets just hope no one offers Steve a wage he couldn't ignore or he'll be gone. In the mean time he's here so lets all enjoy what's he's doing!
would you rather him lie WS?
do you begrudge him the opportunity to manage one of the biggest clubs in the country? I certainly don't.
of course I'd love him to stay but I think he's earned the opportunity to manage in the premier league. I hope that will be with us next season.
how often do you hear managers blatantly lie about jobs and then take them? I'd much rather him be honest as he was.
how many games would we have to lose on the trot for him to get sacked? 5? 6? where would the loyalty be then? SR has shown he can be pretty ruthless and it works both ways.
lets not forget what happened when it looked like Bryson was leaving...signed a new contract a few days later.
watch this space!
I think that pretty much sums it up, fans sometimes expect players and managers to act differently to how they would act IF offered a bigger job with more dosh which represented career advancement.
It is all speculation anyhow and Mac has said as much.
Jim Smith talk McClaren into going to United…
Ferguson asked about him potentially joining them, without hesitation TBE said "I'll fetch him for you", McClaren was unsure to which TBE replied something along the lines of 'you don't turn an oppourtunity like this down'.
Ludicrous to bash McClaren for joining United when it was Jim Smith himself that essentially talked him into it.
You can't blame him for taking the opportunity.
Odd thread this so many questions and contradictions!
Firstly it's a job for managers and players so why should they not further their careers like anyone else? Some times it's on merit sometimes on jobs for the boys. Example when jewel came here was it for performing at a current club or through aquantences or contacts?
Has McClaren earns the right of a move. Most CE's at other clubs will look at better comparisons than most on here that it seems better and compared to five years ago so it must have. They will look at the key remits and true comparisons. He has had a good run since being at the club but comparable results are as when he took over, there are serious questions in the transfer market and the fact he has failed to actually achieve anything.
The big issue is many seem to be realising that he has probably been using the club to raise their profile. I might argue IMO he's not the only one.
Now here's something interesting. Is now the point to jump of an opportunity ari

Haha, Ratts is a dog with a bone!
Apart from securing a highest leage finish in how many years...delivering entertaining rather than stale football...
Could we also count increase in turnover as another marker for improvement. I am sure the CEO values the turnaround in attendances which were falling away under Clough, a decline that Shteeve has arrested and taken us into growth both through ST sales and general admissions. Throw in the income from a run to Wembley, and better cup runs...I wonder just how much he has added to top line revenues versus his predecessor?
