It's been quite interesting from an anthropological perspective reading, (and participating in), the varying threads about Bowyer. The same views and arguments raise their heads again and again. Posters will make some points and then say what they’re seeing isn’t good enough. Then they are counter argued into micro points which indicate that their views are too simplistic. But ironically, the same counter posts make assumptions on the full reasoning and mindset of the post they are responding to, and themselves oversimplify what they are responding too. And then become too simplistic themselves in their response. It’s quite circular and goes nowhere.

    Maybe Howie

But essentially arguing over points that haven't been made, or over assumptions that certain things haven’t been considered.

At the end of the day only one person (presumably) is going to make the call, no matter how many debates we have.
This call will (or should be) made, on the basis of their / her 'grand plan'.
Only way GB's potential will be discovered is by a retention, if he's replaced it proves nothing.
Equally, we can debate forever re; the 'right' replacement, but only one can be chosen. So again (all things being equal), the ones not chosen cannot prove if they could have done the job, or not.

The headline conundrum for me is: What is in Madames' mind
