    re: Transfer activity

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis confirmed he has made a bid for Wigan Athletic's Callum McManaman as he looks to add a winger to his squad.

Wigan have reportedly rejected a four million-pound bid from West Brom for McManaman -- two million pounds short of the Latics' asking price -- with coach Malky Mackay saying in the Daily Mirror: "It would take an awful lot of money for Callum to leave Wigan -- that would be a board decision."

Pulis said after Monday night's 0-0 draw at Everton that the 23-year-old was one of several targets he hoped to bring to The Hawthorns in the January transfer window to boost their bid for Premier League survival.

The Baggies' boss told reporters: "It is not just him. We have had four bids for different players. We are just waiting to see what clubs want and then we will take a view. We wait to see what are value for money. Some have been rejected, some we are still negotiating."

Wigan Athletic: Malky Mackay wants to 'freshen' squad

Wigan manager Malky Mackay wants to freshen up his squad for the fight to avoid relegation from the Championship.
The Latics have already signed defender Liam Ridgewell on loan since the transfer window opened, with Oriol Riera and James Tavernier leaving.
Meanwhile, Shaun Maloney's move to Leicester broke down and a bid by West Brom for Callum McManaman was rejected.
"We're certainly going to be trying hard, we're going to be having a right good go," Mackay said.
"It will be over the next two weeks and seeing what we can get in," he told BBC Radio Manchester.
"I'm definitely trying to freshen up the squad, without a doubt we need to do that - we'll be working hard at that, please believe me."
Wigan are currently next to bottom of the table, five points behind Rotherham in 21st, the place immediately above the relegation zone.
Former Watford and Cardiff boss Mackay has taken just five points from nine league games since replacing U

[quote="Les_bradds_lad"]QPR winger Matty Phillips and Feyenoord frontman Mitchell te Vrede are said to be interesting the Latics during the January transfer window.
Latics manager Malky Mackay has made no secret of his desire to add fire power to his current squad and the expected departure of Shaun Maloney is expected to fee up the cash to move for both players.
Phillips is the cousin of current Wigan Athletic player Emmerson Boyce and has struggled for first team action with QPR this season.
The pacey forward is said to be available on loan until the end of the season and would be a fantastic capture for the Latics. Phillips showed his ability at Championship level during his time with QPR scoring three goals in twenty-one appearances last season.
He cost Rangers £5 million when he moved from fellow Championship club Blackpool the preceeding summer.
Meanwhile 23 year old forward Mitchell te Vrede is being linked with a move to the Latics after expressing h
