I'm old enough to remember the dark old days of the 1970's when the best you could reasonably hope for each season was to avoid the bottom four in the old Fourth Division. Avoiding the ignominy of going through the re-election procedure and having to count on the self-preservation ethos of other league teams was deemed success.

When the Adkins era arrived with the Wembley appearances plus three out of four seasons in the Championship, I really thought I'd died and gone to heaven. For me this had always been nothing more than a pipe dream.

Following Adkins departure and the rapid decline in fortunes right back to where we had started, the good times seemed over. Yet here we are just a couple of years later and we are on the cusp of yet more glory. I can honestly say I have never felt more enthusiastic and excited about the future of my club.
