After looking like we had a half-decent pairing with Boyce and Llera who were in the main pretty solid, how have we arrived at our current position?

Boyce is dropped, no doubt because of his performance against Oldham which I admit was dire and a few other incidents where his lack of experience was starting to show. Then we have Llera who was playing the best football of his short career with us but is suddenly banished from the squad completely. Llera was not only defending well but was the main reason we were playing the ball from defence through midfield. He basically kept us playing football rather than hoofball.

Now Canavan looks first pick despite the fact that all long standing supporters know that he has always had far too many switch off moments such as the one last night at Coventry which have cost us so many points over the years. For all his strength and heading ability he could lose the man he should be marking even if they were confined to the same telephone box. It's

i think llera,s poor heading and lack speed as well as body mass has gone against him.

Boyce had a very poor game against Oldham and that has cost him.

Llera has been up and down in his time here but was in great form just at the time he was banished from the squad. That's what makes you wonder if other factors are involved.

Thankfully Canavan has come back and so far kept his 'switch off' moments down to a minimum as well as providing a massive threat in the opposition's box. Let's hope both of those things continue.
