Heskey is close to extending his stay at Bolton...

Emile Heskey is close to extending his stay at Bolton, after revealing talks have taken place over a new contract at Macron Stadium.

Heskey joined Wanderers on Christmas Eve last year and made his debut two days later, scoring in a 2-1 home victory over Blackburn Rovers.

After signing a short-term contract until the end of March, terms were agreed that would see him remain at the club until the end of the campaign and Heskey, who has made 17 appearances for the Trotters, says he is ready to sit down and discuss the possibility of another 12 months with the Championship club.

"I'm close to signing a new contract at Bolton for next season," Heskey told talkSPORT. "We'll be sitting down very soon and discussing it further.

"The manager has said he wants me to stay, and I'd love to stay here. The fans have been great and the players are exceptional.

"Next season the manager is looking to push for promotion as long as he can get in the players who can take the club forward."
