Looked okay aswell tonight. Your right, Big Sam did spot Kalinic. He just barley played him after doing so, that was the problem.Originally Posted by jordan12rhodes

Quite liked the lad, and thought that he was not really used to his possible full potential.
Unfortunately, that happens in many cases, where after acquiring a particular player, from there on a manager just does not manage to 'fully' employ them. For whatever reason.
Just looking at his stats, it would appear that with us either he didn't achieve his 'normal' quota, because he wasn't up to it. Or, we just didn't give him sufficient chance.
My (failing) memory says it was more a case of the latter.
Yes he had the potential. If my memory serves me right did he not score two against WBA and then got a straight red ,three match ban and then it all went a bit off after that?Originally Posted by Despair
Always got the impression Big Fat Sam just didnt really fancy him ..as you say if the manager not good enough to get the best out him ..pointless having him
This is an area where JR/Saxo and I never agree. I think one of Sam's major flaws was that there were certain types of players who didn't suit, physically, his image of the ideal striker, and who - as a result - were not given a proper chance to prove themselves. Kalinic was one, and Matt Derbyshire was another.
I think Sam saw them as simply not robust enough. The quick, goal-sniffer type was not what Sam wanted.
When you consider Big Sams one and only tactic at Rovers was Robbo pumping a free kick into the opp's area for a big man to knock down, or Pedersen swinging in a corner, Kalinic never stood a chance. I recall Samba (who could never defend to save his life) was played more as a make shift centre forward than the actual £6m centre forward Sam had signed (from YouTube). There's a reason why had was sacked from almost every job he's ever had. But being one of the highest paid managers about tells you absolutely everythinOriginally Posted by AucklandRover
I always liked Kalinic and felt that he was never given a fair chance under Sam. Don t get me wrong I don t think Sam was as bad as some make out, but Kalinic was better than anything else we had or could afford at the time.
Also set the team out to play to his strengths was something Sam never did. To be honest even if Sam felt he wasn t strong enough do they not have a gym?
Fat heads record on paper is acceptable , but Jesus so **** to watch . Main tactic , get ball to keeper and launch it !
