JRS, vested interest rules. There is no better example of this than the current turmoil within FIFA. The corruption within that organisation has been well documented over many years: but who was going to rock the boat? Certainly not those with their snouts in the trough: and that applied to almost everybody connected to FIFA including national associations. In the immediate post war years clubs and club chairmen ruled the roost: players were regarded more as goods and chattels than employees. I remember when Dougie McBain, a talented and loyal club captain, declined terms offered by Queens: and what was the club's reaction to that? They quite literally put an end to his career by refusing to relinquish his registration, as a result of which he could not sign for any other club. Then along came the Bosman ruling and the pendulum swung too far in favour of players. Top players demanded long contracts but did not necessarily feel obliged to honour these contracts when it suited them but

Agree with jr on this. If the compensation money received for holt etc is not something pretty reasonable, there does not seem much point to developing your own players.

We could just revert back to what we did before, ie signing out of contract players from other clubs, in the hope that every now and then get lucky and have a decent side.

I agree with you JR, it is very frustrating and I remember being really peed off that we also lost Dobbie & Bob Harris for nothing as well, although theirs was a slightly different situation.
One of the other difficulties in offering young players longer contracts is that their agents might well advise them only to sign for a year in case bigger clubs do come in for them.

If Charie Telfer is worth 200k then Holty and Reilly must be worth 100k a piece. Who sits on these tribunals?

If reports in today's tabloids are true then Queens only received £35,000 for Holty .

We got £40,000 for Durnan who'd only been with us for 3 years unlike Holt who's come through the youth policy since 11/12 year old .

As a shareholder , a season ticket holder and a life long fan I'd like these rumours put to bed and for the club to tell us exactly what we received for Holt , Durnan , Reilly & McShane

The club read this message board so over to you guys

well as iv said before ,the only way to stop these things happening is when you first sign these young players offer them a 5 year contract and if thay refuse it then dont offer them anything and move on to other players ,only way to get one over these agents is to play hardball .

To Francis, we cannot just offer five year contracts to every young player . The fact is that it could be clear relatively quickly that a youngster is nothing special and that we still have him on our books/ payroll for five years when we could be saying goodbye and bringing someone else in. Harsh ,but this is football . There is a case for having offered some of the guys who have left a two year deal previously but who is to say that their agents would have allowed them to sign it anyway ? My next point is that if the reports of us receiving £35,000 for Holt is true, then this is a joke and underlines my original point. Are we to say that Holt is worth a fifth of what Charlie Telfer is ? Just ridiculous .
