There will be some postive news on the Colclough front over the next couple of days

The positive news is a long time coming.

    And SD now sounds despondent.

He must be fed up of acting as shrink, social worker and probation officer all rolled into one.

If there's no closure on this signing, and Vale don't want Ajay, why not have him on a short-term contract?

There aren't many goals in him, but maybe he could help the younger forwards to play.

How the hell could AJ help the younger forwards !!!! A player who was indulged far too long here. NO other club have hung onto him.

So it is now looking like, for the second time in 2 preseasons, we will lose a player for a small fee when they had the potential to be sold on for millions.
Some questions need to be addressed.
How many times did this happen under Dario - a talent deciding to force his way out of the club and denying us a transfer fee? Apart from Billy Jones I can't think of many obvious examples, and now it has happened twice in a year.
Does Davis' management have something to do with it?

Incredible. Dosent kick a ball for 18 months, gets caught up in trouble on a day when we had a match that he was believed injured for. Magically regains fitness and a bit of form when his contract is about to expire.
It's players like him, Billy Jones and Clayton who could destroy this club. Being paid compensation does not meet our needs. They know the score. Sign a contract, play well, get your move. We've had debates about the academy on here plenty of times. If this kings of behaviour becomes the norm it will become unfeasible to continue in it's current form.

It is nothing to do with Steve Davis' management, more to do with a player (almost as many court appearances as appearances on then pitch in the last 2 years) who thinks, and is being told by either misguided or greedy (or both) people that he is the next top player and is worthy of better than staying at the club who has supported him over the past 2 years and repaying them with development which will result in a sizable transfer fee rather than the piffling compensation we are likely to get when it goes to a tribunal. Frankly, he and his "advisors" disgust me. And if he doesn't want to be here, I don't want him here.

Yeah agree with some that you may question SD's man management skills but the fact of the matter is the player has been advised by a greedy agent. He's not the first and won't be the last as you do get some who are above themselves. Moneywise I'd imagine between £350k and £500k with the usual 20-25% cut if sold.

We move on and look for a replacement to join the supposedly new CH and LB that have been earmarked today.

I don't think we can generalise about Davis' management around the players who have decided not to renew their contracts. I think he handled Colclough pretty well and gave him ample opportunity despite injury and other well publicised problems. However, the same cannot be said regarding Clayton who, it is pretty well known, was unhappy about the chances he was given during his injury-hit last couple of seasons and the way that the manager treated him. Whether you agree with those sentiments or not they were contributory factors to the player leaving.

And of course even his detractors can't blame Mr D for the way that Billy Jones left!!
