    Unsung Heroes - QOSFC

Over the last week or so I have been on numerous football fan forums and noticed a similar thread going around looking at the Unsung Heroes of the past. My earliest experiences at Queens are Mallan, Mathieson, Lilley, McAllister and co and it got me thinking about what players have been forgotten about before and since I started watching Queens despite their contribution. These are the players who consistently performed while also allowing their team mates to take centre stage.

Thinking through it myself I feel that Queens fans have generally appreciated all of our players but there are possbily some who may have just been forgotten about.

Long before John Connolly's recruitment of (in the main duds) from the North East of England Queens back in 1964 signed a lad called Alan Smith from Blyth Spartans. Fielded mostly at inside - right he was a very good player who scored a brilliant 43 goals in only 66 games for the Doonhamers.

My earliest memory of queens players were Robertson,Reid,Bryce,Cochrane and Davidson in goals, lots of good memories that season finished second behind Dunfermline.

Graeme Robertson and George Cloy never really get talked about much when we are reminiscing about past players and they both served the club well. Indeed, Graeme went on to play in the Premier League after leaving Queens . So , for unsung heroes , I would add these two.

I'm pretty sure I remember Alan Smith scoring five ( two pens ) in a 6-0 demolition of Brechin City in 1966.
