    Jesse Lingard

Called up to the England squad.

Couldn't get into the Derby team last season and looked very uninspiring, but is apparently one of the best players this country has to offer.

The national team is pushing young players up to the first team too quickly. Other countries let players develop in the under 21s first before putting them in the national side. Too much pressure and should be growing with the players that they will be alongside in the future.

Further shows that all you have to do to get into the England squad is have two good games for a top four side and you're in.

And don't start giving me that 'it's a friendly, it's a chance to experiment' rubbish. Should be experimenting with players that actually have earned it and have a genuine chance of starting competitive matches.

Couldn't agree more RamBam, such a fine line between perceived success and failure. Odd flashes apart I thought he looked nothing special at all for us last season and I certainly wouldn't want to have signed him on the evidence of his performances. Take a couple of chances for a big club though, and there you go...suddenly he's international class.

If you are good enough, age does not matter.... However Lingard is nowhere near good enough..
Not really bothered with the old boy network that is English football... Top to bottom, rotten. Rooney will play whatever his form, England will be rubbish when it matters. 10 in a row... Meh... Down to earth with a bump when we played the first decent team. Don't get me started on Woy..
Face painting, pants band, kiddie party atmosphere ar Wembley.

Same at all levels of the England set up. Why very few under 21s etc progress.

Or was it the sign the manager last season was lost and had no idea how to use such a player?

We should be seeing more young players progressing. I have no problem with Lingard and he does have potential. Probably more chance of game time at Utd at present. This is key to having any kind of competitive England national team. Players who are continually warming the bench at Mancity, *bleep*nal & Liverpool should not be selected imo.

Jesse Lingard, Jason Puncheon and Ashley Young! The Belgians, Germans and Spanish must be defacating their pants looking at the international attacking threat that lot brings ahead of a major tournament.

Either way Sterling is going to be starting in the summer, who might very well make some of them defecate if he kicks on this season. But a young player is not going to learn anything by just being a back up, especially when he's probably not up to the standard as an established Premier League player is. A young player should only be near the national team if he proves his class consistently in a number of games like Sterling, Barkley and soon to be Alli.
