The vast majority of players dont ever achieve anything in the game. Its their job for most so the motivation of the shiny baubles is very limited unless the player is truly world class and those kind of players are in the minority. Why gamble on staying and getting nowhere in the hope of an even bigger contract when the one on offer will secure you for life and if they turn out as good as "the extr

Got a mate who lives in Leeds, and so far as Erwin's money's concerned, it appears a fair bit of it's being *bleep*ed up against a wall, quite literally !

So long as we have the compensation payment in our bank account thats all that should concern us.

Regardless of facts behind his decision to move on, another prime example of a young player moving before ready. He was ill advised by agent and never ready to make Leeds 1st team squad. He was not the first nor the last. Motherwell where at fault not having him signed longer contract and we have now addressed for future talents.

I suspect Rangers/Hibs will be hovering as both benefit short term loan to secure SPL football and dismiss Celtic/Aberdeen interest. Perhaps Dundee Utd (?)

The assumption “will end up wealthy young man” an opinion without much thought as could be released and disappear playing out career for Brechin with a p/t job ! You need McFadden’s transfer history (example) to end up with cash in bank when career hits buffers … Erwin no where close. But hey … Erwin could be the next Jamie Vardy.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Previous to last season he had done virtually nothing and there was precious little to indicate he would make an important contribution in his final year. Giving young players extended deals is a gamble. Look at Bob McHugh for example.

You can't compare Bob McHugh to Lee Erwin. A blind man could see Bob McHugh would struggle to make the grade with us. On the other hand it was easy to see that Erwin had a much better chance.
