Thread: McGhee v Hughes

    McGhee v Hughes

Does anyone have any rational ideas as to why Mark McGhee's record is so bad in head-to-head with John Hughes? By my count in 11 attempts as Motherwell/Aberdeen manager he has won just one out of 11 against Hughes who was with Falkirk/Hibs/ICT - and there aren't that many draws making up the rest. Given the strength of his first Motherwell team (third and then comfortably mid-table) and the relative weakness of Falkirk at least, there clearly seems to be something up even if Hibs were better than Aberdeen - or is it just a remarkable run? Either way, it doesn't bode well for the cup...

You keep this up and you'll be chucked out of the Happy Clappy club.

It's completely understandable to be concerned about this tie as nothing currently points to us winning. You look at McGhee's record vs John Hughes, the fact Inverness gubbed us at Fir Park in November, us losing Grimshaw, our defence being garbage and our stinking record in the Cup, especially against top flight sides and even more especially at home...and things do not bode well for us whatsoever.

A puzzler indeed Ive always though Hughes is as thick a two short planks and it baffles me the success hes enjoyed.

Likewise but he did a good job at Falkirk and got the promotion and kept them up and has so far done a fine job at Inverness, securing top six football and more importantly winning the Scottish Cup - the first major honor for ICT. The latter achievement p1sses all over everything that any of our recent 'successful' managers (ie. McGhee and McCall) have achieved.
