Shola Ameobi Offers to Play for Bolton for Free

Neil Lennon Hopes to Keep Shola Ameobi
Shola Ameobi has expressed an interest in playing for Bolton without pay, but the club are unable to conclude a deal due the terms of their Football League transfer embargo.

After a three-month stint with Wanderers, Ameobi departed Macron Stadium following the expiry of his deal on Saturday but had made his intentions clear to manager Neil Lennon that he would like to extend his stay.

The 34-year-old scored twice in 10 games for the Trotters, during a spell which was severely hit by injury, but would only be able to re-sign for the club if permission was granted by the League.

Under the terms of their embargo, Bolton are unable to register new contracts, meaning they are almost certain to end the transfer window without any new faces, permanent or loan signings, unless they can find a way to lift the sanctions placed upon them.
