Motherwell council to fly Irish flag

Councillors have voted to fly the Irish flag over Motherwell Civic Centre to commemorate a bloody chapter in the fight for independence from Britain.

It follows a request from an Irish republican organisation based in Scotland to mark the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising.

Why not? We're happy to fly the stars and stripes on 4th of July to commemorate another of our allies independence.

Always amazed at the Hvn reaction to the tricolour. Basically the flag of a country that was terrorized and persecuted for 800 years.. and the merest glimpse of the Irish flag sends them totally apesh1t. That's really weird logic

Police in Cairde na hÉireann raid

THE Glasgow base of Irish political group Cairde na hÉireann was subject to a police raid as dozens of items were seized and one member
of the organisation charged under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act.

The shop on the Gallowgate (right) was raided on Friday September 11— Cairde na hÉireann is a support organisation for Sinn Féin.

After sealing off the premises for almost four hours, officers from Police Scotland left the shop with 48 bags containing items ranging from republican memorabilia, merchandise and clothing to paperwork relating to the organisation. Police notified those present that the items being taken were items on sale which supported terrorism.
