The original Saxon settlement of Swindon sat in a defensible position atop a limestone hill. It is referred to in the Domesday Book as Suindune, believed to be derived from the Anglo-Saxon words swine and dun meaning ‘pig hill’. As time went on, it became known as “Swine’s Town”.

The band Oasis took their after singer Liam Gallagher saw the “Oasis Leisure Centre” as a venue from an “Insp****l Carpets” tour poster. In 2011, some twenty years later, he performed there for the first time with new band Beady Eye.

Swindon has several James Bond links? Ian Fleming bought and demolished Warneford Place, a house in Sevenhampton to the north of Swindon, and built a new one – Sevenhampton Place - in its stead, moving in a year before his death in 1964. The novelist is buried in the churchyard of St James’s Church there. And two Bond movies - A View to a Kill and The World is not Enough - had scenes shot at industrial sites in the town.

There you go, I always thought he lived in Jamaica.
