    Didn't mean to sound sarcastic although having read what I wrote I can see it can be taken that way. However, I can see that the goal (for a team) is to win games, but surely games can only be won by scoring goals?

    I prefer the Steve Clarke quote that "Football is a simple game made complicated by coaches".

    It's a lot easier to score goals if you are able to win, keep and use the ball well, by outfighting, out-thinking and out-playing the opposition. That's what I mean by 'winning the game'. It's not a comment to be taken literally, but figuratively.

    Play well and the goals (and results) will come. Focus to heavily on scoring goals and it will have an adverse affect on us playing well. Look at last season where, with 2 great strikers, we were getting goals out of nothing. Then when other teams wised up (and our forwards had a dry spell) our season utterly collapsed.
