    Frank Worthington...

    Former England striker Frank Worthington has Alzheimer's disease, his daughter has announced.

    The 67-year-old, who made eight appearances for his country in 1974, scoring two goals, is well remembered for scoring a wonderful individual goal while playing for Bolton in a Division One match against Ipswich in 1979.

    On her Facebook page, Kim-Malou Worthington wrote: 'There has been a few wondering about my dad's health recently and so I thought I should let you all know Frank Worthington has Alzhiemer's.

    Frank Worthington's daughter has revealed he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 'several years ago'

    'He was diagnosed several years ago and has been holding it off with positive thinking and football.'

    Halifax-born Worthington is regarded as one of the 'mavericks' of the era, alongside the likes of George Best, Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and Tony Currie.

    Top guy and a legend of a player who I was fortunate enough to have been on the ground on the day of "that goal". Bumped into him at a football exhibition with my kids at the Bolton Arena a few years ago and chatted about his career and that goal and his face lit up just talking about it.
    Also gave me one of my favourite TV memories with a world cup Come Dine With Me special with him, John Fashanu, Carlton Palmer and Neil Ruddock,one of the funniest I've ever seen.
