Roberto di Matteo appointed Aston Villa manager

One of the worst kept secrets in football, Steve Clarked as his assistant. If di Matteo can get Villa close to promotion then i think he'd have done well. The ultimate goal for most relegated clubs has to be an instant return to the Premier league. - view external link

I think he's got a harder job than Neill or Benitez at popping straight back up, but he's experienced in promotion and has managed a big club in Chelsea. I think this hire increases their chances at promotion. But he's still gotta address the rot in the squad and recruit new talent.

Exactly, i wonder which 'village you're on about? it's has to be a sandwell town fan.

Di Matteo and Villa can compare notes on Champions league and European cup victories.

Did someone mention the European Cup?

Di Matteo did score the winner against Villa in the fa cup final, but that was in the 1999/2000 season.

That was a fumble by David James which gifted the goal to RDM The screamer referred to was the quickest goal in a Cup Final, and was against Boro. Sworry!
