Not surprised, since you seem to be more concerned about the driving range and leaving the stadium than going to football.
Man, this thread has certainly descended into a depressing death spiral ......
There are those that don't want to leave Pittodrie - I get that. However, the bigger story here is over the parochial nimbyism that pervades in the north-east and consistently naysays any attempt to improve the area. We've seen it with the bypass, UTG, you name it ....
Aberdeen FC represent this area and are intrinsically linked to the fabric of the north-east. Surely the time has come for all of us to stand up for our football club and support them through this. The club have invested a lot of time and effort in trying to move forward to a new stadium and training complex and failed a couple of times in the past due to the inertia that exists here .... "nae haein that here" "fit aboot a' the traffic?" "it'll be a nightmare" "it'll be sh!te" blah blah blah .....
I had an email exchange with a Westhill councillor. Turns out he's active in the No to Kingsford group. The argument against the development from their side boils down solely to traffic and parking. Everything else is just noise. Some folk in Westhill don't want cars parked in their streets on match-days. OK, fair enough - petty, yes, but a real concern for them nonetheless. Now, in my opinion, said councillor should be doing his job and working together with the appropriate folk to figure out solutions to the parking issues. Now, if I'm not mistaken, there's a zillion parking spaces in the Kingswells and Westhill industrial estates. Might be an idea to explore how they can be used?
Traffic will be heavier on match-days, granted. Again, it's not rocket science to figure out the best ways to keep things moving. One thing is certain - no matter how much up-front planning on traffic and parking take place; the first few times it is tested there will be problems, shambles even. Learn, fix and improve. To put traffic and parking concerns as the blockers for a development as potentially iconic as this would be frankly embarrassing for the whole area.
One last thought on traffic and parking ..... has anyone ever considered that the reason we don't get as good crowds as we believe we should may be related to traffic and parking at PITTODRIE? I suspect there are a lot of folk that are put off because it's a ball-ache to get there and park within a 20 - 25 minute walk from the ground - and then another 30 - 45 minutes to get away after.
Ha ha parking a car on match day ..LOL ....FFS .....
This is a myth.
58% park within 0-10 minutes of the ground.
38% park within 11-20 minutes of the ground.
At Kingsford 1000 cars would have a car park season ticket and everyone else will be parked half an hour away at Kingswells or 20 minutes away at Arnhall.
It will take up to 30 minutes to leave the car parks.
5000 going back to the city centre by bus to either go to the pub or get another bus home will take around an hour from leaving the stadium.
There would be no benefit to anyone except those driving home to the shire.
And at the end of the day we'd have a soulless stadium in the middle of nowhere that no one likes.
Do this properly FFS. King's Links or a plan to redevelop Pittodrie into a cohesive stadium.
You must be a slow walker. You could easily walk to the Kingswells park and ride in 20 mins.
Arnhall or Lawsondale in Westhill would be about 10 mins.
So no additional time walking and then better options once you get to your car.
Your trying to manipulate the situation because you don't approve of the move.
The walking route from stadium exit to Kingswells P&R is almost 2 miles.
Nobody walks "easily" at 6 miles per hour. Try 4 miles an hour for a fit person. So 30 minutes.
Especially not on a relatively narrow pavement which hundreds / thousands of other people are also walking and cycling on.
Add in new pedestrian crossings to get over the slip roads for the new AWPR / A944 roundabout.
The route below shows 1.87 miles - without the added pavement detour with the massive new roundabout!
