Motherwell dispatched East Stirlingshire with three second half goals from Johnson, McDonald and Cadden to keep up hopes of progress in the Betfred Cup. But we'll need a big win on Saturday. - Match report

Well we won the game by a comfortable margin but it could and should have been much more. Tim e will tell if it will be sufficient to help us to one of the 4 best runners i up spots. The line up and formation, although contrained by enforced absences, was a bit surprising and although we created a barrowload of chances we only manged to convert 3 and all of those in the second half. Maybe a consequence of playing with only one striker.

Upsets elsewhere may put our result into perspective but that doesn't aid our cause.

I appreciate that given our cup record we have no right to take the piss but I'm a little disappointed some more youngsters didn't get the chance of a run in the last two games. We've performed to par, no better or worse than I expected really, and a win on Saturday should get us into the last 16.
