I don’t think Russia could complain if called, but I also thought that it wasn’t 100% clear, in which case I don’t think VAR should overturn the call on the field. But if Wolves were victims of it, I’m sure I’d think differently.

Just saw an interesting fact on twitter: now that Spain is out, the World Cup Finals will feature at least one team that hasn’t been to a Final in 50+ years (England 66, Sweden 58), possibly a team with no appearance in the Final ever (Croatia, Russia, Denmark, Colombia, Switzerland)

That's the thing, unless it's 100% then the ref can't give one. I would be disappointed if one went against Wolves.

A great start to this game with Croatia level again. I hope there's a few more goals to come in this one!

Pretty disappointed with Croatia in this match. They have much more talent IMO, but haven’t been that threatening. Denmark are blowing solid on both ends of the pitch. Much like the Euros, Croatia have a clear path to the semifinals if they can get past the first game. And much like the Euros, they might not get it done.

This is a match I don’t want to see go to penalties.

An excellent through ball from Modric, it's just a pity after rounding Schmeichel that Rebic was brought down. Schmeichel will get the plaudits for saving Modric's penalty, but i think it wasn't well taken.

Any explanation why that wasn’t a red card there? Rebic just had to tap it in and he gets taken down. Feel that fits the description of denying a clear goal scoring opportunity?

AFter further reading, I guess it’s only a yellow if you make a “genuine” attempt at the ball. Which seems far too subjective to me.

The only explanation that i can give is that Zanka made an attempt to win the ball in bringing down Rebic. New rules were brought in where a player can be booked and not seeing red. The new rule seems to point to the award of the penalty was enough, as well as Zanka getting only the yellow.

In my eyes Mich i still class it as a professional foul by Zanka and denying a genuine goalscoring opportunity. He should've been sent off.
