Johnson out, Belic, Bowman in at Fir Park

Motherwell moved quickly to fill the gap created by the departure of Marvin Johnson. Two additions to the squad were announced just as the transfer window closed. - External Link

Good to see us bring in 2 attacking players, although Belic is only on a 6 month loan. I wouldn't have thought that we'd be in the market for another striker but heyho he's here and the best of luck to him. McGhee seems to have been chasing him for several months.

Hopefully the two new guys will be positive additions, but in some ways these signings raise more questions than answers. If Bowman has been chased for some time, why sign Blyth? Is Blyth fit or have we signed another Wes Fletcher - appears to be constantly injured or not good enough to get a place in the team. Is Louis Moult going to be back soon (hope so) or is his recovery going to take longer? Is Skippy going to be shunted back into midfield to accommodate a Moult, Bowman and Ainsworth front three? Oh yes, where does Belic play? Is it Belic, Moult and Bowman? Or is he to be our attacking midfielder? Still, at least we seem to have been running a plan B to cover for Marvin's departure and have been tracking Bowman for a while and, presumably, used a chunk of Marv's money to sign him. These two guys being signed show better planning by the club than being caught out by Marvin going on the last day of the window and we are left one out and no-one in.

Nice to have options. Need 16/18 players for the SPFL.

Interesting points and my instinct was similar to yours in the sense that I think Blyth is being written off already...whether that's true or not we'll need to wait and see. The alternative is that we've already sounded out Moult about a new deal (similar to what we did with Johnson), he's said no chance and the for sale sign is going up in January.

Fair play to the club for being ready to move though - the Johnson in-does well-new deal-sold at large profit with sell-on-replacements arrive hours later cycle is textbook for how we're trying to operate and they deserve credit for this one given the flak they often take.
