Firstly the area in question is in Newtonabbey North Belfast, there are various interface areas, nowhere near East Belfast which is mainly Protestant with small Catholic population up the Short Strand.

The loyalist paramilitaries used to extort money from the business people in Newtonabbey under the pretense of "protection", if you didn't pay the feni@ns would come over from the New Lodge attack your premises or rob you, other areas of concern were the Antrim road and the Lower Shore road, it was the same in the republican areas, don't pay up and the Prods will come over and pay you a visit, extortion was the main income for both sides of the divide and they had a "working agreement".

The IRA were extremely professional in their racketeering, alcohol, cigarettes, fuel, cattle, bank robberies, drug dealing and money laundering were the tools of their trade, they used kids to run the drugs around the estates and kneecapped anyone who tried to tax their business, and I would agree that not a lot has changed today with both sets still dealing drugs, taxis, bootlegging, ect, you only have to look at the fall out in Dublin with the mobs shooting and stabbing one another in broad daylight on a regular basis.

The fact of the matter is crime paid the wages of the foot soldiers and when the project was finished they were left unemployed, so they are now self employed freelance criminals, the myth that "the cause" was a battle to force the Brits out was exactly that, the proceeds from criminal activities meant these people didn't care about peace, "the cause" for them was to make money causing misery for those they purported to protect.
"the fenians would come over from the New Lodge"

that would be extremely difficult,,its about 5 miles away from newtownabbey

The New Lodge estate is five minutes along the M2 from Newtonabbey and the Abbey centre, or you could take the longer route along the Shore road and York road, or up the Antrim road, that would be a full ten minutes.
The New Lodge IRA liked to kill unarmed personnel via snipers and then explode houses or cars used killing more personnel who looked to investigate, a five minute drive for these guys wouldn't have been an inconvenience, especially when their livelihoods depended on it.

The criminal gangs that run theses estates make the lives of the decent folk a complete misery at times, it stopped being a fight for a united Ireland a long time ago.

Your level of ignorance on this is not unusual for a plastic, you've never been to Belfast have you?

if " the fenians" wanted to rob wanted to rob businesses in Loyalist areas they would only have to walk across the road to tigers bay

you like to ramble,,dont you ?

as for gangsters.......I will just quote one of your own ****ing generals ya simpleton

It describes the IRA as "a professional, dedicated, highly skilled and resilient force", while loyalist paramilitaries and other republican groups are described as "little more than a collection of gangsters".

"if " the fenians" wanted to rob wanted to rob businesses in Loyalist areas they would only have to walk across the road to tigers bay"

I'm well aware of the close proximity of the Tiger Bay area to New Lodge and its peace walls to separate the communities, however if you would allow your wee sphincter a moments rest you will realise it was the "threat" of robbery and attacks that force the business folk to pay the extortion tax that I was referring to.

Your link for the IRA gangsters is almost ten years old and has been posted on here dozens of times, a document with over 100 pages which has been reviewed by a republican community group quoting two lines from it, it proves nothing and makes you look a bigger fool than you are, unbelieveable your trying to portray the IRA as some sort of professional army that was carrying out orders in an attempt to remove the Brits and form a united Ireland, utter utter shyte, extortion from their own was their main income stream, every man and his dug in Belfast knows this.

Less than a year ago there were protests in New Lodge about the IRA extortion rackets..............http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-34663813

If you lived on the Falls you would have known this.

Can't speak for others but I find your Rangersmandownunder way too long and Rolf was handy short-hand for someone from Oz. The reason for referring to you as such has nowt to do with *****philia at all as it happens.
BTW do you think everyone called Rolf is de facto being referred to as a *****phile?

Dear oh dear - Rolf you're making an utter c**t of yourself here in front of people who are familiar not alone with Belfast but with the troubles. The fact that the statement was made 10 years ago shouldn't really come as a surprise even to a clown like you. Think carefully now and it might eventually dawn on you...
