    The Imperial, Dumfries

Anyone remember drinking in the bars of this establishment or attending wedding receptions there ? The reason I ask is that the huge building which stretches from Munches Street along Queensberry Street to the corner of Great King Street is up for sale at an auction in London. The council did rent some of it for offices and currently Boots Opticians and Farmfoods have shops there. If I remember correctly one of the Imperial's bars was called Telstar.

Remember attending my big cousin's wedding reception there as a page boy with full kilted outfit.
I was only about five years old at the time so don't remember much about the bars or the drink !!
Was the Imperial not originally owned by the Co-op ?

Think you may be right in tat the co op had something to do with it yeah.I was mistaken in thinking that it was an ICI party. It was definitely a co op xmas party as my dad used to work in the drapery before the ICI

Confirmed by my Dad that the Imperial restuarant and bar was indeed owned by the co-op.Think it would be 1965/6 that I attended the xmas parties there!

Yes the co-op owned it. I had my wedding reception there in 1968, Wattie Dyer was best man. They had a couple of bars, and yes I think one was called the Testar, upstairs. The main area was downstairs, where they did an excellent set lunch for four shillings I think. Good old days, the swinging sixties. Peace out.
