Took my time to reply to this thread as was giving the new management team time to introduce and make changes to any of Gavin warm up routines. as someone who watches the majority of warm ups home and away have to say following yesterday's victory at St Mirren totally disagree with the views on this thread if anything the warm up routine was more high tempo and intense than previously although there hasn't really been much change at all.

and by all accounts his training is very high tempo also . Players need a decent warm up to avoid picking up injuries

Nothing wrong with actual training being high tempo. The more intense the better . Got to be a fine balance between getting the body warmed up for a game and possibly doing too much that can jade you later on in a game.

Interesting discussion. Talking to PE teachers over the years, I've been aware of some of the discussions and changes in the warm-ups and warm-downs. Seems to me that there's still a lot we don't know. Over stretching of muscles can reduce efficiency and, of course, can cause injury. Static stretches, the sort I used to do before five-a-sides seem to have been replaced by dynamic stuff viz stretching on the move.
Some stuff to someone like me seems to be bonkers, dressed up in pseudoscience, like ice baths. Maybe moderation is the name of the warm-up game. As others have said, maybe we judge it by a) guys not going off after 15 mins with strains and end of game energy.
