    Those two matches were when Fergie's learning curve reached the almost perpendicular.

    Liverpool's back 4 Neal, Hansen, Lloyd and Kennedy were not blessed with pace, but they had Kennedy, 6oune66, McDermott and Case protecting them, preventing them from being tested.

    Two years later, Simmie and Cooper (hing on in there min) let NO **** through them, whilst Strachan and Weir did the clever stuff.

    "Defending on the halfway line" was how he described it.

    Lloyd would certainly have struggled against a pacy attacker in those games, given he was playing for Forest at the time.
