I just realised 1971 was 50 years ago.
We used to call it ”extra tim”.
I just realised 1971 was 50 years ago.
A great year - apart from the family life-adjustment needed - with that Dons team the best we had until a dozen years later just falling short of winning the title. Electric Warrior, Who’s Next, the Allmans at Fillmore East, Deuce, Sticky Fingers, Every Picture Tells A Story, Imagine, Tapestry and a hunner other unaffordable records released.
“Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive, but to be young was very heaven!” said Wordsworth about it as, on the way back from a Barrow away win at Workington, with a bit of tasty action with the Cleator Moor Boot Boys en route, he put two bob in the jukebox in the Grasmere chipper and selected Brown Sugar on repeat.
Thruppeny bit heid did sound better than 50p heid though
This is worthy of a new thread but some of my favourites are:
Archibald you have the control of an epileptic in full fit.
Ritchie (Andy) an international cap - is your old man from Easter Island?
Fck sake Brechin this is as frustrating as pulling the hair from yer erse with a boxing glove.
“For ****’s sake, Aiberdeen come AWWN! My wife thinks I’m here enjoyin masel”.
Davie Dodds has just scored a second half winner at Fir Park, to herald a spontaneous chorus of “You’re not ugly any more” from the rascals in the Aberdeen support.

England in the Group of Racists™
Scotland not far behind but more a friendly banter type of racism.
Riffing, as has just about every lazy Guarniad hack and 6music presenter this 50th anniversary year, on David Hepworth's sound hypothesis that 1971 was the greatest year ever for music. To think: Tapestry, Blue and The Carpenters, all not just released in the same year, but recorded in the same studios at the same time FFS. You al' c*nts were spoiled.
