A rather meek and disappointing performance from Queens today where they were always second best to a very useful looking Hibernian. There were moments of promise from the new young recruits today and against the other teams in the Championship I am sure they would have had more in the way of success. Simply put we were out played by a team destined to win the league.
no too disapointed but thought we could have done a lot better. no point in hitting high balls to dobbs but we continued to do it with him no chance of winning anything. happy with 0-0 half time.2nd half first 20 i thought we were sitting too deep. lee had a few good saves but his kicking was auful. young dykes won everything in the air when he came on and on another day might have snatched a draw. heads up keep it going.
Better team won in the end and the majority of their players were bigger and stronger than Queens. Danny's passing again let him down and young Thomas very rarely got past the full - back. Liked the look of Thomson though and we gave it go in the last 20 minutes when subs Lyle and Dykes entered the fray. Fyvie (8) for them was excellent in the middle of the park and no one got
near him for most of the game. Now on to another difficult day v. Morton with the Dowser suspended and our ex - player Oliver on fire for his uncle Jim ! - another two goals in the Ton's thrashing of the Honest Men today.
Really disappointed with that effort today, Queens were overpowered right from the off and were never allowed to settle into any kind of game. Thomas disappeared in the second half and it is easy to see why Danny got the push from Lennon, his game has not come on any since he left Palmy, we really need someone with a bit of vision to see a pass to a Queens player, today was a lesson on how to boot the ball anywhere or pass it to a Hibs player, all in all our shortcomings were exposed by a very good Hibs team
Higgins will no doubt return to centre back to partner Brownlie with Dowie suspended.
Hibs were the stronger side but for all their possession they could only break us down with a deflected goal. Thought we defended very well.
Where our game was lacking however was in attack. Dobbie doesn't work as a solo striker, he doesn't have the necessary pace. Their defence looked extremely shaky the times we did trouble them. Can see how committing bodies forward would have left us vulnerable but we possibly showed them a bit too much respect.
The referee was the most biased i have seen in a long time.
Hibs just about edged it but Queens were always in it and despite a lot of the ball the visitors created very little and Queens had the best chance of the game when Joe Thomson chose the near side of the goal instead of the far side allowing the Hibs keeper to make a fine save. Naysmith has made us into a more solid unit although Dobbie does not relish the lone striker role. Robinson has obviously been working on his kicking as there were fewer errors.
A rather drab game all round but a great atmosphere with the Terregles Street end opened up. I remain optimistic we will get into the playoffs.
Watching the warm - ups highlighted the difference in strength between the clubs with the Hibees squad including the likes of Boyle and Humphrey the wingers who ran Dundee United ragged recently, McGeogh, Forster, Graham all relegated to the bench against Queens - they even had star midfield enforcer Bartley missing through suspension so its easy to see why they are favourites to return to the top league at the third attempt. Cold, wet, miserable day but thought there would have been a few more at the game - a huge 700 down on the last match against the big Edinburgh club in September.
