Had the pleasure on Saturday to sample a proper pork pie from Andrews butchers on Effingham Street. Proper crusty outside with real cured pork inside. The supermarket pork pies are nowhere near.

I'd forgotten how good a butchers pie can be.

So, if you eat them, which is your favourite pork pie ?
    Hope you brough me one!

Not a chance froggy, he never brought me one to New York Tavern Saturday.

Lincs, yes Percy's is still trading. It's the same one Ericslad mentioned earlier.

Casper, the last time I had a hot pork pie was in the New York Tavern. The owner walked through the door with a tray full so I bought one for each of my froggy mates to sample. I ended up eating 3 as they were not to their liking. They strangely liked them cold though so I only got to eat my own..

There's a butchers in Tickhill, not sure of the name.

A lad at work used yo go on and on about the Scotch Eggs they did. Tbh I just thought a Scotch Eggs a Scotch Egg, once you've tried one you've tried em all.

He brought me one in to try and I realised how wrong I'd been. Absolutely gorgeous.

I tried pork pies from there too, again gorgeous.

If it ain't got jelly on it it's not a pork pie.

When you pick up the pork pies from Percy Turners, the jelly is not set, so best to take a container to keep the pies upright.

They sell Percy Turners at a shop at the top of the High Street (or they did, had a sign outside saying "Jump Pork Pies"), also sell them in the butchers on Wath High Street if you live that way.

It's the jelly that puts me off a pork pie. I wish there was a decent one with the just the meat and pastry but no jelly.
