    Are 3G pitches safe?

Telegraph has an article reviewing latest information on the use of crumb rubber and risks of cancer. It takes 20000 old tyre to produce crumb rubber for one pitch. Tyres contain carcinogenic material and it seems that may leach out of the rubber when it gets wet. The authorities maintain it is safe, but two experts have doubts. The FA is just about to build 3G pitches across 30 towns at a cost of 200M.
