Thread: Our Mel.

    Our Mel.

Whilst Mel is an incredibly successful businessman and has achieved ambitions the rest of us can only dream about, should he have a board in place which challenges him? I'm not fussed either way, but I do find it strange we don't have a board to help run the club.

Good point FR, he needs challenging.
He has made some daft moves while being in charge at Derby. Perhaps he should give Bill Gates and Zuckerberg a call and get them on board!

The most important person at a Football club is the CHAIRMAN---The next most important is the MANAGER.
The most important role for a Chairman is to appoint the Manager, and work with him.
C=E-O,--employed to look after Administration of the club,----
When Managers sacked ,regularly,Time to worry,Chairman failure--When Head Coaches appear it means, the owners want to have a go at football related matters,And the C-E=O=wants to have more control of the club.
Fans enjoy the guess, who is next, and fans forums, play the field of sacked managers,or head coaches available.
Mel made a big decision by appointing Steve Maclaren,And should stand by his appointment.
Chairman do not fall on their sword,or board members, only == the employees==aint it just a shame

Clement is a dull man ffs, we rightly got rid imo, he wasn't a motivator and his radio interviews were a borefest, not to mention the players looked bored.

But its clear these players wont get us up, and Clement isn't a team builder either. pearson the perfect man long term for reasons I've stated 100s of times.

Be better when he comes to terms with Clough--Clements--Pearson-Wasell,are the past, and are part of the restructuring project built by Sam Rush and Mel Morris==We are now into the second coming of Steve Maclaren,
And our journey since 2013 to attain premiership status with our master plan is on going.
The progress our club has made being popular for many of our fans is that we are one of the big-big spenders
And we will give Stevie until 2017/18 to fulfill Mels dream---Unless he goes into meltdown again.
C-E=O seems a good job 5 seasons after this one,Who would be a Manager or more unstable Head Coach
A after thought with out all this wealth were would we be now,Perhaps with luck the Championship.
Promotion this season still possible. and would be worh while

Not entirely sure what your point is Trevor but at the end of the day managers are going to be judged on their records.
For what it's worth the win ratios of the last six appointments at Derby are; Clough 33.5%, McClaren (2013-15) 53.7%, Clement 42.4%, Wassall 50%, Pearson 21.4% and McClaren (2016-17) 50%.
Of course that's not the whole story, other factors such as the state of the club when a manager comes in...how much they spend...how long they're given etc have to come into it. Clearly Clough had the longest spell and I would imagine - without checking - that Clement and Pearson spent the most. Suppose the most interesting aspects of those stats may be, how much better McClaren did than Clough with much the same squad...how comparatively well Wassall did despite all the animosity and how rapidly McClaren's win ratio has deteriorated since Christmas. Thoughts?

Pearson sold Hendrick for 10m and got 3m loan fee for Martin, he bought Anya for 2.5m and Vydra for 8.5m, so he actually had a net profit of 2m quid

The win percentages are fact but surely it isn't surprising that McLaren's win rate is much higher than Clough's with much the same squad!
Clough figures include the dire club he came into and slowly slowly started turning around. Remember when getting a home draw against a top 10 side was seen by US as an achievement?
I was one calling for investment in the squad but understood if that wasn't to happen under the Yanks, we were probably over achieving to finish mid-table!
I also firmly believe that THE biggest influence in Derby's improvement under McLaren was the MARTIN factor. When CM first came to us, it was a genuine toss up between him and Connor Sammon. Over the months, Clough made CM first choice and the intelligent play linking with Hughes, Hendrick and particularly Bryson was starting to show us as big improvers.
After a few defeats to teams who were subsequently promoted or very near and a narrow 10 man defeat against the old enemy, Clough was sacked with us mid-table. We were ALREADY improving but NC was not given the season to see how it went. Many say he'd had enough time and was simply a non league manager out of his depth. I just saw painfully slow improvement that was to be expected against the level of net investment made.
In short, he wasn't given even a fraction of the millions subsequently spent to improve the squad in leaps rather than small steps.
Many say they saw enough to know they wouldn't trust NC to spend the big investment.
We'll never know however if he could have bought in an Andre Grey rather than a Blackman or Vydra.
