    Season 1996-97

First of all, Id like to ask what do you all remember about this particular season ?
Mark McGhee was your manager wasnt he and I rememebr him running his mouth about various teams that season (including ourselves and his former team Reading), and he constantly embarrassed you all as fans.

Im only asking this because its 20 years ago today that we won promotion to the Premship and we did of course beat your team to automatic promotion that season. I could go on and on about what that day meant to me as a Tykes fan, and I know my team will never ever do that again.
And Id be the first to admit that Wolves have more than gained the advantage over us in the years since, so this is not a mickey take at all. I just wondered what your fans memories are of that particular season ?

In all honesty I remember nowt about that season as I spent all my time traveling between the US and China. What I do remember is seeing a guy in Dallas airport with a Barnsley shirt on, got into conversation with him and of course migrated to the nearest bar. First time in 40+ years that I nearly missed a flight. Had a head like a robbers dog for a week.

Now you Sir Woody and the other old lad on here Sir Wokey, youve both been around the old block a bit havent you ?
I like the story about a Tykes fan in Dallas (and seeing as Im a Barnsley FC and Dallas NFL fan), are you sure that wasnt me in flashback mode ? lol.

ps - Wokey, why dont you start a new Film thread on here ? Id support it all the way, esecially as it was my idea originally.

    Hi Acido,

I like the Sir Wokey bit, but you missed the n out as in Sir Wonkey!

The film thread was great and a shame that it disappeared as there were some really good recommendations and comments on there. I don't watch much at the moment as all of my spare time is taken up with working on a personal project, but I do think it is a good idea with the closed season almost upon us. If you want to start it, I will support it especially with new stuff as I am not up to speed with the more recent releases. I will give it some thought with a view to what to post.

I visit this site almost every day, but usually post under a different name on another Wolves site.

Will you come to watch Barnsley at Wolves next season as it would be good to meet you?

    Best wishes.

I remember only taking 7 points out of a possible 21 in March costing us and of course not losing to Barnsley that season and making them look bang average at Oakwell with a 3-1 win.

I would be more concerned with that strip we were wearing. Where the flying feck did they get that monstrosity from? It looks three time too big to begin with. Ugly.

it's the way football "science" has evolved.

All clubs wore the baggy, oversized shirts in the mid 90's, the best example i ever saw was a young Peter Crouch, it looked like the shirt neck was about to slip over his shoulders at any time.

Now we have the lighter, tighter tops that don't compensate for the average man's beer gut like the one shown in the clip.

Strange in a way considering how tight the shirts/shorts were in the 80's.

    Full circle I suppose.

Ahh yes the 1-3 loss for us, I was there that day and remember our goal being allowed even though Mike Stowell (your keeper) was laying flat on his face.
Two of your teams results that stand out for me were a loss at Reading, and also only a draw at home to Grimsby.
It was also funny for us seeing the Blunts lose in the play off final.
