Robin, the running costs of the club were massively unsustainable and now we've dropped, that will further damage the balance books. With the player departure consequence of this drop it requires further financial input on top of further financial input.
This is the downward spiral we're on (that just got a whole lot worse.
That esteemed, albeit annoying, poster J Claret is quite right in his slagging of us - it's an almighty financial mess that it's hard to see a solution for ( apart from a Prem return obviously) but that now is even more of a pipe dream.
We need some divine intervention to get out of this, I would even say some form of FA 'involvement' to force/encourage the clueless ones to 'do the right thing' with some form of assistance to give us breathing space to steady the ship even at continued lg 1 level if that's the 'penalty'.

A really good comment from they think it's all over @ 9:38 on LT report re DW's apologetic piece (where actually I think it's a reasonably hands up apology from the guy).
The commenter sums up Venkys tenure extremely well.
It mirrors my personal thoughts towards them very accurately .
Yes they seem to have been duped, BUT, these are not corner shop traders for gods sake!

Yes our books will need balancing in a massive way but there will be a few players out of contract who will be shown the door and loaned players going back to their respective clubs
we need to look at what players will help us in a tough league and what one's will be useless at rolling the sleeves up
    strong personalities required.

The one thing I don't think Venky's can be accused of is deliberate asset-stripping. If that was their intention, they have made a spectacularly bad job of it! Their incompetence as owners has certainly included dramatic financial losses for them.
This was a venture based on increasing their public profile, presumably, but it's only if the old saying, "There's no such thing as bad publicity" is true that they can be said to have met their expectations.
Instead, most of the disaster is based on their having put clueless - and possibly dishonest - people in positions of power in the early days. In recent years, they simply seem to have stuck their heads in the sand. Apparently, they have received expressions of interest in regard to a take-over, and have turned them away. What can this mean? Simple stubbornness or do they still see a long-term possibility of a return to the PL and glory?
I have always found their motives baffling, and the lack of communication makes that worse. All the same, I really can't see that all of this was part of a deliberate plan to run the club down and sell it off. What possible profit or benefit could there be in that?

I agree there is/was no intentional asset stripping plan.
IMO Their hanging on is down to obstinate pride, and as we know: pride comes before a fall.
On the subject/ argument of should we despise them or pity them?
My feelings are very clear, I am a lowly Lancashire chap and they are billionaires : ummm let me think!
No, I have not a jot of sorrow over their losses.
Do I hate them - no.
I think I am somewhere between being disappointed in them and angry at them for all the reasons I have posted since Nov 2011.
