Why ask myself ?
Maybe some have clicked on dodgy links but they are not the ones in the wrong here.
Enlighten me then.
At a guess they may have some core applications that were specifically developed for XP and the cost of updating them might be too high so they stay with XP. Not uncommon and no real difference as to why many large organizations still maintain IBM mainframes to run legacy applications rather than pay to update/replace them (except of course IBM mainframes are not as susceptible to virus/malware attacks as the Microsoft platform).
There will be thousands of businesses and organisations large and small who will be using obselete operating systems for the reason CA suggests. Some of these will be struggling businesses, others will be cash rich, this incident could have happened to any of these.
