    Season Review 2016/17 (2)

After a three week January break play resumed with a Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox. Many suspect that the fallout from that game caused our season to swing from bad to worse. - External Link

I said as much on the other thread, McGhee's pathetic reaction to that game helped turn an already poor season into an utterly dismal one. I don't excuse the players for a poor season but when you hear your manager come out publically and say that he feels hollow, one player must have a back injury from carrying the rest and that he doesn't give a monkeys about them cos it's the worst he's felt in 900 games then it's hardly going to inspire anyone.

McGhee certainly had a way with words I'll give him that, it's just a pity that they were almost always completely the wrong words and they almost always ended up coming back to bite us.

The reasons for our poor season were many and varied but a poor batch of signings and re-signings last summer played a significant part in it. Add to that an unlucky season injury wise and you have the basic ingredients of a very poor campaign.

As in his first stint with us, Mark McGhee had a good first season but a poor second one. Surely not a coincidence?
