We are in league one, what players should we target?

I know nothing about this level, but am eager to learn.

I think we will need an old-style "enforcer" in front of the defence. Of course, it's possible Lenihan can do that job. We have rarely seen him in that role.

We really need a striker and could do alot worse than look at Danny Hilton of Luton town fc
Great hard working player who knows where the goal is
Plays league 2 but could certainly do it at this level too
Vaughan at bury is another who could be a top buy sadly they are in their final year of a 3 year plan so are throwing money around so any hopes of Vaughan are limited

How about giving at least one or two of our own youngsters a game? Can they be any worse than the old stalwarts clambering onto the treatment table weve seen all too often in recent years. Are our youngsters really so bad they must never be allowed to start a match?
At least Mowbray has persisted with Nyambe and Raya and Mahoney whilst he showed interest.

We might learn a bit more on that score from the pre-season matches. As I said on the other thread, it looks as if Wharton and Tomlinson are first in line.
And it could be significant that Travis has been given a new contract too.

Clearly the academy is the way to go ,if possible. But this is a very long-term strategy, that can gift the benefit of an"out-of-contract"youngster to a competitor aka Mahoney.

Perhaps a joint-strategy with a "wheeler-dealer" transfer director would help-someone like Bowyer - when he wanted to sign Keane for a miserly £2.5 million(or whatever it was)foolishly by-passed by the Venkys. But we all know what their decision-making is like!!
