Cowdenbeath 3 Queen of the South 2

I'm a wee bit disappointed with this result after having fielded such a strong starting X1. I know that a lot of people will be saying it's all about fitness and that results like this don't matter. But results bloody do matter and Queens certainly should not be losing to Scotland's bottom club. If players are not added to the squad, we will almost certainly fighting with Bechin trying hard not to end up in the automatic relegation spot, Dobbie or no Dobbie.

I am one the ones that are against James McFadden signing, it would definitely use most of the budget and we could probably get two players in instead. However let's hope Naysmith already knows that the current team will not cut the mustard in the Championship this season.

Some serious work needed in defence for sure. Who was the number 18? Wasn't impressive.

A good horsing at Cowdenbeath and the news of a mysterious appointment by Mr Hewitson at Palmy causing ructions has put the Queens fans on the back foot already. Another scudding by Annan next week will no doubt prompt the long knives to come out of stowage.

Perhaps you would like to share with us what outrageous decision by Billy will drive supporters away from Palmy

    Cowdenbeath v Queen of the South, 3-2, H.T. 0-2, Att 246, Admission £7, |Programmer 50p, Teamsheets available for a donation, Pie and Coffee £2.50
    At Central Park

No need to stand in a public park watching pub football when quality games like this are on the agenda. So many questions to be answered – will Cowden be any better than last season? Can Garry Naysmith arrest the decline in QOS fortunes? Will James McFadden break into a trot? Why is Stephen Dobbie playing at this level? Has Derek Lyle retired on the proceeds of his testimonial? How good is Josh Morris? Can Fraser Mullen go 90 minutes without a booking? Are there still any East Kilbride fans lurking about greeting at getting wet? Will Donald still have a big smile on his face after the Craig White verdict?

In fact, the day ended with even more questions to be answered. Shortly after the game it was announced that Cowden Manager Gary Locke is leaving the club to return to Hearts as a full-time ambassador. His Assistant, and former Hearts Assistant, Billy Broon takes over with immediate effect.

The 90 minutes of football was actually really entertaining. Queens were dominant in the first half and led thanks to a goal by Andy Stirling and doubled their lead courtesy of the aforementioned Dobbie.

The second half was a different story as Cowden started to play a bit. Cammy Muirhead should decent composure to score twice to level the game, and Davie Syme headed the winner late on. Queens defence looked absolutely gash and I cannot seeing them having a great season. On the second half performance there is some hope for Cowden – although the first half display was poor. Josh Morris looked quite decent and should score a few goals at League Two level.

James McFadden, ex Scotland, Motherwell and Everton appeared for Queens and was seven slower than usual. Time to retire, I think.

Quite a decent crowd – Queens always carry a few dozen, even for games like this. Reasonable turn out of the East of Scotland cognoscenti who fancied a day out in Cowdenbeath.

4 page programme courtesy of Cowden Andy – sold out 20 minutes before kick off. Team sheets were available for a wee donation from the Club Shop.

I thought the pie was a bit bland but Jim Kidd insisted that his was excellent.

Really enjoyed the game – these early pre-season games are a real boon compared to the bad old days when we were restricted to two weeks of public action from the last Saturday in July.

Going by the "Pie & Bovril (train spotting type poster) site, some of our fans are still expecting a top four finish. Believe me, if we don't get five more players in we will be challenging Brechin City for the relegation place.
