Thread: No Smoking

  1. #1

    No Smoking

The Scottish Professional Football League have recently issued new Ground Regulations to every club in the Leagues.

Our Board of Directors have decided in the interests of safety and comfort for all fans attending events at Palmerston that:

“Smoking including all cigarettes, cigars, pipes and E cigarettes is strictly forbidden.”

There will be no area within the ground that smoking is permitted and should anyone leave the ground for the purpose of smoking they will not be readmitted to the ground.

Anyone found to be smoking will be ejected from the ground.

    From qosfc.com

Not a smoker but this will definitely drive some fans away

Many fans that populate the terracing have for years smoked at the left - hand side looking from the players entrance

I don't reckon this will affect the attendance too much.

At a time of dwindling crowds this is a draconian measure for those that smoke and will certainly act as a deterrent to those hooked on the tobacco. I would have liked to see what the decree from Scottish Professional Football League actually stated and if Queens had no choice but to implement a full ban and hopefully they will respond to this thread accordingly. I am a non smoker myself but I had no issues with those that needed to satisfy their cravings just to the side of the terracing and think it was a good compromise. Perhaps if the club installed a smoking shelter as is the case in some workplaces this would meet regulations but without having sight of the new rules I am only speculating but I do think this is another example of inconsideration towards the fans .

Is outside the main door of the Social Club included in the stadium ban on smoking as many fans who have paid
good money for a sponsorship package in the upstairs lounge congregate there for a smoke !

This rule will push even more fans away from attending Palmerston . What exactly are Queens thinking about .
I've no problem with the smokers who meet behind the floodlight at halftime . Watch crowds dip even further

I would rather watch Queens for 90 minutes than smoke for the same length of time.

albertz your missing the point ,the people that smoke aint going to stand for 2 hours at palmy gagging on there craven ,this will drive fans away ,the draconian policing queens allow have drove the younger generation away ,now the smoking ban will drive some of the older generation away ,the way things are going queens will either have a support the size of stranrear with a similar ambition ,or go out of business ,its coming to the stage where the fans have to get together and say no more ,

It is a little sad if people will not attend games if they are not allowed to smoke. It has been banned inside stadiums in England for a number of years now and hasn't made any difference to attendances. At one ground down south you also get bodily scanned before you get near the ground and them bodily searched before you go through the turnstiles. The smoking ban will at least give be the security staff something to do. The ban I suspect affects every club not just Queens.

too many rules and regulations being forced on football these days ,between those and prices to watch games nowadays im now beginning to think its a waste of time attending ,the whole matchday experience isnt the way it used to be no fun anymore being expected to stand and watch like robots no drink allowed in ground is also draconian ,thats where german football stands out with its head high only decent games to go watch nowadays are in the junior leagues as thay chose not to go down the rules and regulation path ,went to watch glenafton a few times with a 12 pack of cans sitting at my feet ,everyone seemed to have some sort of drink on them atmosphere was buzzing ,yes a bit of crowd punchup here and there but seen as banter ,never seen a policeman yet at those games ,all in all a great matchday experience ,what we are getting howadays in the senior leagues i think id rather either go watch junior football or be an armchair fan .

    12 cans in 90 minutes. That's a can every 7.5 minutes. Hardcore!

Don't see a thing wrong with letting fans smoke out in the open air . It's the only pleasure some fans get when attending Palmerston .

On the drinking front, I was at a Fulham vs Notts Forest game back in February or March and it was refreshing to see alcohol for sale inside the stadium. To think Scottish football has had a blanket ban in place soon after the Old Firm 1980 Scottish Cup Final. I assume that the smoking ban is across all Scottish football grounds?

Yes, you can buy alcohol at English grounds, but you cannot take it into the stands.

It would great to be able to have a drink at the game for those who would like to have one. Its great going to the rugby and having a few, sitting/standing next to opposition fans and having some good fun. Sadly though there are still a few who can't control themselves and ruin it for everyone.

Interestingly having seen a few games in Germany it is fantastic with the alcohol although the police presence there is completely different. Dortmund for example they have watch towers with water cannons and the police are geared up more than troops in Iraq. Safe to say they deal with any situation before it escalates, quickly and efficiently. In the UK sadly the British public feel as if their civil liberties are being challenge and would not take kindly to the police being able to take such strong action.

Yes, true enough but still not too bad an idea. I doubt if Scottish football would ever resort to those rules.
