Lets hope we are still excited 10 games into the season. We haven't played a proper football team yet.

There are positive signs but let's not get carried away, we're starting from the lowest base imaginable, in all aspects, so anything other than an improving situation would have been disastrous. Yes, there are reasons for optimism alongside the anticipation any new season brings but this falls well short of excitement, especially for those of us that have been in this situation countless times and been let down once the first competitive whistle blows.
Yet more wise words from Leedsmiller. It's a pleasure to read you.
Like me, you'll remember the dark days of early 1970s, the time when the hyper stringent measures of Eric and Lewis Purshouse saw us drop into Division 3 for the first time in 17 years. Those who knew their football (including the likes of you and I) saw relegation was on the menu several years in advance and it took the inept showman Docherty to bring it to fruition.
Of course we'll bounce straight back up cried the non thinkers, after all we're going to be up against laughable teams, teams like Hartlepool, Barrow, Southport, Stockport, Darlington, Torquay, Crewe (all but the latter are now non-league or worse).
And did we thrash them, let alone simply beat them week after week. We did not!
Darkest days in more ways than one was it about 72/73 before Brecks, Finny, Crawford ect... Didn't we play on a Sunday in the winter, kicked off early cause threat of power cuts. Goodfeller was playing. George Kerr was another bad period watching us, didn't really pick up till Ronnie 1st became manager.
Reason to be excited. I'm back at headquarters tonight. See these new players. But want to see the side chosen on merit. No favoritism.
