    Motherwell score four against Morton

Four goals without reply gave Motherwell an untroubled win over Morton at Fir Park. Dunne, Cadden, Tait and Moult were the scorers on a wet and chilly afternoon. - External Link

Must be one of the youngest teams that we have started with for years.
Played well, need to see us against better opposition.
    Bigi a class act.

Yes. need to see us against better opposition but so far so good. We look to have signed a few decent players. We certainly look stronger than last year. That wouldn't be that difficult to be fair.

We have struggled in these kind of games very often in the pass so a big plus today. You can only play who is in front of you and we were never in any danger. If Cadden an Moult keep this up we will struggle to keep them for even this season and thats would be a big double blow. McHugh again outstanding

OK, we haven't been up against Barcelona, but we look as if we know what we're doing. Some of the wee flick-ons and short passes in and around the opposition penalty area won't always work, but they were totally absent last season! The summer intake looks decent - Kipre can look cumbersome sometimes, but taking prisoners isn't in his nature and he can't be faulted for effort. Biri looks just the man to set up Moult, though I fear he might not get the chance. On his Radio Scotland tea-time show TC rated Louis at £650 000; one of the others reckoned £1M. The club is in an awkward position, given that Louis could leave for nothing at the end of the season, but if Hayes is worth what Celtic paid for him.................

Got to be happy with that today. Four goals, four different scorers and a clean sheet. Morton were dreadful but that wasn't our problem we can only beat what's in front of us and we did that.

We are far from perfect and I think we need to tighten up a bit at the back but so far the signs are promising for the season ahead. It's refreshing to see us out out a side with a much younger average age than in previous seasons and the team actually looked today as if they were enjoying playing football, something which we never saw during last season.

As has been said, McHugh was superb in the middle of the park today and it was another fine display from Cadden. I just hope we can hold on to him and Moult as they are key to us.

Very encouraging today albeit we weren't playing top class opposition. We played some nice football at times and looked more solid than we have done for a while. Great too to see 4 different scorers. The new lads are settling in well although they've got a bit to go yet. So far so good.

It's fair to say the first two LC games have been positive. The midfield in particular is a massive upgrade on last season with McHugh and Bigi and it's not really a surprise Cadden - perhaps fully fit again and no longer burdened with massive responsibility in a relegation battle - is looking better again.

Carson is untested, as is the defence really - we will only know how that's looking when the real stuff starts.

Atm however I think it remains that we're looking okay with Moult and in bother without.

Agree with that assessment, particularly on the points of Moult and our midfield.

Without a (fit) Louis Moult in the team then I think we will struggle for goals unless a suitable partner/replacement is found. Moult certainly hasn't been at his best in his last two appearances despite two cracking free kick goals, but he is clearly short on fitness. Without him though we are certainly not clinical enough up front.

As for our midfield, it's very early days but yes, the signs are encouraging and a big, big improvement on an aging Lasley and a half arsed and also aging Pearson in the middle like we had last year. Carl McHugh when fit and on his game is a sound and solid midfielder who can make the rest of the team tick, that's something we've lacked since Steve Jennings left to be honest, even though they are slightly different types of players.

Good result. It looks like the team is bonding well. As mentioned above the defence haven't been properly tested yet but hopefully they will be ok can't be worse than last season. Another good result against Edinburgh and we will be looking good for the start of the season
