Sometimes we may just ask a club if a player is available or to name a price and that's showing interest if the press get hold of it either by the selling club or the player or his agent even though we might terminate our quest then. They want to push the price up. E.g. Assombolonga

I think agenats are behind a few in the hope it alerts us to someone wanting a move and PL experience.
Sometimes a selling club needs to get rid and suggests a few clubs with money e.g. Chadli and Burnley Newcastle and Swansea Sometimes a journo needs to have a story and makes a story up. There are a lot of "this striker or centre half is ideal for Burnley" knowing we sold Gray and Keane. Or the odds on Long going to Burnley have shortened.

Transfermarkt rates rumours for players though how I don't know. It's all good fun. It does seem like we are starting to ask and even seriously consider some in Europe. Though maybe it's still a rumour

A move for Waris makes sense since he would come at a much reduced rate than Andone
The Ghana forward joined Lorient in 2015 and has scored 19 goals in 51 league appearances so far.
The 25-year-old has made 22 international appearances for Ghana, and is also on Sean Dyche’s list of targets.
Burnley would need a work permit for Waris.
