Basing penalty shoot-out on tennis: tie breaker. Before when it got to 5-5 it was sudden death. Now have you got to be winning by 2 pens to win the game? could be here all night.

Gwru - No change to the way you win or lose a shoot out, just the order they are taken. The Winner Takes It All

That's the first song that came in my head when I read the article

Advantage to first, pressure to 2nd, it's been like this for years.

Whoever takes the bloody pen is still under pressure no matter what order it's taken. Point?

Just looked at the new format. When you get to the 10th pen team b takes that & pen 11 if required. So to me you've got to be winning by 2 pens. Team b surely can't have 2 goes to win the game. Explain.

Edit - first reply was nonsense.
Work out the scenarios. You don't have to win by two.

    Mamma Mia!
Scores level after 5 apiece it becomes sudden death, no change. B scores 11 A misses 12, B wins and visa versa and so on. Only change is who gets to go first in sudden death.

    Further explanation:
    After 10 penalties it's all square (say 5 - 5)
    11 - team B scores and is one in front 6- 5
12 team A misses game over 6 pens each but 6-5 to B
or 12 team A scores all level
13 team A scores and is one in front but B has a pen in hand to equalise or lose (by one)

I don't think it is one pen each after 10 though CAM. I believe the 2 at a time format continues
